Abstract

This study investigates the response of a railway track modelled as an Euler-Bernoulli beam placed on a two parameter foundation with the inclusion of an additional elastic layer representing the subgrade. Uplift, settlement and bending moment caused by variations in velocity, damping and stiffness of subgrade have been found numerically. Changes in the subgrade stiffness are found to have relatively insignificant effect on the behavior of the beam.
